The Very Nature of Humanity

Mar 30, 2019 by Kevin Her

"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins" Ephesians 2:1

We like to think that we are good people who has done good things and live a good life. We try to everything we can to walk righteously, but the Bible reminds us that we cannot by our own means walk righteously without the work that Christ did on the cross. The Apostle Paul reminds us that our very human nature is that of sin and without God’s lavishing grace upon us in his Son Jesus Christ, we would still remain in the very nature of sin.

A dead person cannot respond and does know that they are sinful without God revealing your very nature and the need for Jesus Christ. Thus, the present tense verb “were” or literally “being” reveals your true humanity without Christ and that is dead in your sins.

If you believe that you are good enough then remember the Bible says, “No one is good, not even one (Rom. 3:10).”
