Even though I walk through the darkest valley,I will fear no evil, for you are with me;your rod and your staff, they comfort me. - Psalm 23:4 -
It was only 6pm and yet outside was total darkness. The church was only four houses away but it seemed like it was over 2 miles because I couldn’t see anything. Looking from the second story porch, I was wondering if I should go and use the restroom at the church because it seemed so far. The realization of our parents fears in the forest reminded me of why they go home so quickly when the sun falls below the mountains. They feared the darkness and remained where they were so that they could be safe.
Christians, the darkest valley for David was being chased by his enemies from place to place. It seems like he could not hide from Saul at all and everywhere he went, his enemies followed. Our darkest valley today is drifting from God’s word. It is looking at God’s word as something that we can compromise or even twist to make fit our culture. There seems to be no way out, yet in the end, we are reminded that God’s word is what will discipline and comfort us to overcome the darkness.
God’s word is not only a mirror but also a rod to discipline us to remain righteous to Him. The comfort that we receive from God is knowing that he is with us and protecting us from straying away from him leading to eternal separation. Christians, the days might be dark and our future might be in dim, but in Christ our future is nothing but shinning and bright. Fear not for God is with us and our future is secure in Him. Paul comforted the Romans in this: If God is for you, then who can be against you!
In Him,
