The Christ Heart

He must increase; I must decrease.

-John 3:30 -

I remember the first time I ordered a Big Mac from McDonald’s and the cashier asked to see if I wanted to upgrade to extra large meal. My mind was wrapped around how big the hamburger was going to be, but when I got my meal I was disappointed because only the fries and drink was made larger but the hamburger remained the same. The hamburger is the heart of the meal and everything else is just for show.

In the same the way, what needs increase isn’t our homes, our cars, our mental capacity, our fame, or whatever else that may cause people to see that we’re blessed. It is our hearts that people need to see that has increased. The only way our hearts will increase in size is by increasing the name of Christ in our lives. Society today is the grinch who will steal Christ away from us, but if we love one another as Christ loved us; there will be some who's heart will increase to love Jesus.

John the Baptist understood very well that no matter how great his ministry maybe, it is Christ who will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the children’s hearts towards their father. He understood that his greatness could not achieve that which Christ was sent to do. He gladly yielded his ministry and life to Christ.

Christians, we need to yield our greatness to Christ so that his name and his ministry may increase and truly turn the hearts of the people back to God. The less you shine the brighter Christ shines. A great slogan for us all to live by. May Christ increase and you decrease.

In Him,

Rev Kevin Her
